Valentine’s Day draws close, and what better way to celebrate than by reading some romance? Since I haven’t done an end-of-year reading post, I thought I’d recommend my favourite romance reads of 2019:

  • Band Sinister by KJ Charles. Historical m/m romance. I read this at the very start of 2019. Sweet and delicate and utterly engrossing. Talk about ushering in the New Year with aplomb.
  • A Gentleman’s Position by KJ Charles. Historical m/m romance. I’m fairly new to the romance genre and also the type of person who gets obsessed. When I discover an author I love, I will go and read all their back catalogue, which is why I ended up reading about seventeen KJ Charles novels within less than a year. I enjoyed every single one but had to limit myself to three on this list, otherwise this post would look like KJ Charles’s Goodreads page. A Gentleman’s Position is the final book of the Society of Gentlemen trilogy and my favourite of the three. I love me some good pining, and this book delivered. Also, I'd give my life for Cyprian.
  • The Secret Casebook of Simon Feximal by KJ Charles. Paranormal/Fantasy historical m/m romance. Amazing. I cried so hard at the end of this book, and I’m still getting all choked up thinking about it.
  • Salt Magic, Skin Magic by Lee Welch. Fantasy historical m/m romance. Wonderfully written with a fascinating magic system.
  • For Real by Alexis Hall. Contemporary BDSM m/m romance novel. Alexis Hall is my other writerly obsession. I haven’t read many of his works, but the ones I did, I adored. I particularly like his writing style; it feels similar to mine. For Real has won numerous accolades and it was possibly the best romance novel I read last year.
  • A Princess in Theory by Alyssa Cole. Contemporary m/f romance. Alyssa Cole writes beautifully. I related to her heroine a great deal, and loved how the relationship progressed. This was the first novel of Cole's I’ve read; won’t be the last.
